FAQ
1)
How much room, and what accommodations, do you need?
Steelin Thunder needs a 20'x20' footprint from which to perform. If
the performance is outside after dusk the host or sponsor must provide
lighting for the musicians. If lighting is not sufficient the band
will stop playing when they can no longer see their music or at the
appointed time, whichever is first. No other utilities are required
unless the host wants the band to provide an instructional aspect.
In that case a microphone and sufficient PA system will be supplied
by the host. If there is a threat of rain or inclement weather, tenting
or other reasonable cover will be provided by the host.
2) What do
you mean, "instructional aspect"?
We're happy to
talk to your guests about how the pans are made, the various voices,
and other interesting tidbits about steel drums. We need the PA so
your guests can hear us.
3) What's the
cost involved for booking your group?
Our 2008 pricing is $700 for a 2.5 hour performance. If your group
is an NPO, we charge $600. And we say 2.5 hours, that's 2.5 hours
of music! We rarely take breaks. If you need us for a longer time
period, we can factor some breaks in to accommodate you.
4) How do I
reach you folks?
The best way to reach us
is to deal with our band director Mike Miller directly. You can reach
him here:

5) You mention you're
a 501(c)3 organization. What's that?
A 501(c)3 organization is recognized by the IRS as a not-for-profit
charitable organization. The monies we raise are used to fund scholarships
for local youth who are furthering their education in a music related
field. Our 501(c)3 status is held by our parent organization, The
Maine Theatre Guild. Monetary gifts may be tax deductible--check with
your accountant.
